Country: French Polynesia – Archipelago : Tuamotu Islands – Main Base :Tikehau and Rangiroa
Our destination is a couple of atolls well known by scubadivers and located in the Tuamotu Archipelago. The first island, Tikehau, is a little piece of paradise located 300 km away in the northwest of Tahiti. With an almost circular lagoon and only one pass, the famous explorer Jacques-Yves COUSTEAU declared Tikehau the richest atoll on the face of the earth.
The second island we will explore, Rangiroa, is the largest atoll in French Polynesia and the second one in the world : it could contain in its center the whole island of Tahiti. Rangiroa is a natural aquarium, ranked by Jacques Cousteau as the most impressive diving site in the world. The Tiputa Pass and the Avatoru Pass are mythical diving spots, world-renowned for dolphins, reef sharks and manta rays.
The aquatic treasures of these two islands won’t be found only in their famous passes but also by discovering the shark nurseries and the manta ray cleaning stations inside the lagoon as well as the outer reef slope and the open ocean around.
